How do I obtain additional text options for writing my posts please?
i.e My twenty-ten theme does not allow me to justify the text in my posts or set double spacing, margins (etc).
Are these, and other, features available in a plug-in? If so, some direction would be appreciated.
I am very new to this, please bare with me.

You can control text justification and other styles through your theme's style sheet. Before editing your theme's style sheet, make a Child Theme so your changes aren't overwritten by any future updates to the original theme.
I also recommend using the Firebug extension with either Firefox or Chrome to help identify the CSS rules that apply to the various elements on a page.
