Testing an upgrade before making it publicly available

    I have a WP install 1.2 that needs to be upgraded to 1.5 and I was wondering if I can install it in a different directory to test it and get my site rebuilt around the new template. Once I have updated my templates, I would like to just copy the files to the current directories and be done with it.

    My big concern is, if I install 1.5 in a different dir than my 1.2 will any changes be made to the DB which won’t let my 1.2 function correctly?

    Why not make another db or use a prefix for the new install?

    The number of tables in the databases is definitely different between the two versions – you’ll need a separate database for 1.5.1.3….
