Temporary URL to Perm - Issues? (2 posts)

I'm hoping someone can help me. Learning WP has been quite the challenge!

I had a temp URL with number digits while I had my domain transferred to bluehost. I set up my site behind the scenes by adding pages and navigation with this URL.

Now my domain is officially transferred, I wanted to edit the pages/links so they have my website / page name, instead of a bunch of numbers.

For example, my site is http://www.thewriterscanvas.com. If you go there, click on Bio, it shows a bunch of numbers in the address, not "www.thewriterscanvas.com/bio" which is what I want.

I'm afraid by changing the home and site URL links that I will lose everything, and I didn't want to set up all these pages again.

    Help????

    Many thanks,
    Elaine

  2. What you want to do is to go to your database and change all the instances of your old url to the new one. You'll need access to phpMyAdmin.

Lorelle wrote a good article explaining how to do this -
    http://lorelle.wordpress.com/2005/12/01/search-and-replace-in-wordpress-mysql-database/

That will change all the url in the posts. You will then want to change the site and home url in the admin. You can also find these in your wp_options table.
