If you create a new template and put it in the child theme folder should it then appear in the drop down list of templates when creating a new page?

If not how to you tie a template in the child folder to a new page?

I just put a new template in the child folder and its not appearing in the drop down list.
I can't find any explicit documentation on this other than saying that you can add specific templates to the child folder. I couldn't find anything about the drop down list and templates in the child folder.

    Thanks

If you create a new template

i would assume so - if you follow the instructions for page templates:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Pages#Page_Templates

    Thanks for your response.

The documentation mentions storing the template in the theme folder but apart from one example doesn't mention child themes.

WordPress can be configured to use different Page Templates for different Pages. Toward the bottom of the Write > Page administration panel (or on the sidebar, depending on which version of WordPress you are using) is a drop-down labeled "Page Template." From there you can select which Template will be used when displaying this particular Page.

The template I just added is not appearing but perhaps its cockpit error.

I wanted to make sure that my expectation that the new template will appear in the list is the correct expectation.

In case anyone else has this question, templates in the child folder do appear in the drop down list.

What is the cockpit error? I've just now noticed that my page templates are no longer showing up in the dropdown (they used to).

Cockpit error - meaning to imply that the problem was mine and nothing to do with the code or WordPress.

Sorry I can't offer any advice on what may be the source of your problem. I usually find that templates don't appear because I've forgotten to modify the template name in the head of the template document but in your case they must be correct if it was previously working.

Are all your templates still present on the server - just a thought.
