Template Naming... (2 posts)

I have made a separate template to act as a static page (I don't like the way the editor handles code) and placed within my theme folder, as it's made to act as any other page, calling the header, footer, etc.

However, if I try to call it by name (ie. /design.php) I get a strange version of my main page; categories and styles are all messed up.

I had early discovered the feature whereby any URL that doesn't fit takes the user a set page...
The same goes if I were to call "/dogs" or "/fkljsdhhdhjf"; it makes no difference.

    Can someone explain this?

How can I link directly to this template file?

Also, why does this feature return me to a version of one
    of my categories?

I can provide all the examples if necessary...
    Thanks...
