Taking over as admin and cannot get to dashboard? (8 posts)

    Hello,

So I have been asked by my coach to update his website (teamgibson.net)
and after logging into the site through (teamgibson.net/wp-login.php)with an admin password I do not see the dashboard anywhere?

Long story short a previous student was in charge of this and it took quite awhile to get them to me an admin log-in.

I was just wondering if anyone could give me any advice or point me in the right direction?

    Thanks,

What is happening after you log in? What are you seeing?

I am just seeing the home page, and some options for managing messages and notifications across the top of the screen. But nothing to make any kind of changes to the content of the pages. I can go to all the pages of the site but not edit them.

Looks like the site is also using buddypress. After you log in, try getting to the dashboard as a logged in user by appending /wp-admin to the site url.

    EX: teamgibson.net/wp-admin

Ok that got me to the dashboard thank you so much. But then it says "enter your Akismet API key" this is a link and when I click on it I get taken to a blank screen where I see "You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page". Any idea about that?

First I would make sure that you actually have an administrative account. You should be seeing at least all of these options (to the left) and probably more, in the dashboard as an administrator: http://codex.wordpress.org/images/3/30/dashboard.png

Less options than that, and you may not have full administrative privileges. That being said, it could also be a file permissions or ownership issue.

An Akistmet API key is required to activate and use the Akismet anti-spam plugin. You can get one free for personal use at https://akismet.com/signup/ or http://en.wordpress.com/api-keys/ if you find you need one.
