[resolved] tags function not working on new/edit posts (6 posts)

I'm running a simple install of WordPress, with around 11 plug-ins, a customised 3rd party theme and on 5.1.56 of MySQL.

For this site, I'm using the default WordPress tags widget rather than a 3rd party plug-in. This widget is no longer working. It also doesn't work under 3.2.2.

I can type in the box, but clicking on 'Add' does not add the tags.
I can click on the 'choose from most used tags' link but nothing happens.

I've tried clearing the browser cache, and this makes no difference.
I've also tried disabling all plug-ins, but it's made no difference.
I've tried an automatic re-install of wordpress from within the dashboard: the problem remains. (I've also tried reverting to 3.2.)

I've yet to try a manual FTP reinstall of wordpress, as I have limited time to admin the site now.

    Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks, but I've already tried disabling all the plug-ins, as I said in my initial post.

I've just tried renaming the plugin folder and that's made no difference to the problem.

One new quirk I have found is that if I use the 'quick post' function I can add tags. However, that's not the most efficient use of my time.

Just tried a full upgrade via FTP and this has made no difference. I've also tried using an alternative browser but still get nothing.

Found it - the theme is a customized 3rd party one. Got a fresh copy and it solved the problem.

Now just need to recall all the customization!

It's best to create a child theme for your customizations.
