   most of my tags get a "page not found", some work partially
   any ideas?

   Try resetting your custom permalinks back to the default setting via Settings -> Permalinks. If this works, then review Using_Permalinks before setting a custom permalink structure back up again.

   thanks esmi, resetting the defaults worked. But I was under the impression that custom permalinks are important for SEO. I'll have to get the background as you suggest. R

   now all my external links are broken. Does this mean I have to go through them all and re-attach because the permalinks have changed?
