Tags & Categories Seem to be No Different (5 posts)

I was hoping to use categories as my main indexing tool. Keep the number down, for instance: sports, entertainment, politics, etc. Then I was going to use tags to help further describe posts. So if the category is politics, I can tag it with obama, and democrats.

I use marsedit to select a category and then select multiple tags. But, though marsedit treats them as different, wordpress does not. My previous example puts everything in the following system:

    example.com/category/name

So even though the category is politics and the tag obama I simply get:

    example.com/category/politics & example.com/category/obama.

I see no difference. Am I missing something?

This sounds like a problem with how MarsEdit works.

WordPress treats them separately too. If you are using an external editor, then the editor can send "categories" and "mt_keywords" for categories and tags, respectively.

Ok. I'll look into the mars edit side.

    Thanks.

Googling suggests to me that it'll work okay if you use the "keywords" field for tags. View->Keywords.
