Tag Cloud disappearing and incomplete (5 posts)

    Lately my tag cloud has been vanishing without warning. When I go to the Widgets section and put it back where it was, it reappears okay but it is missing quite a few tags that should be there.

    I was using the Configurable Tag Cloud plugin but noticed that it hasn't been updated in some time (2009). So I disabled that and added Ultimate Tag Cloud. However, it too fails to display all the tags.

    I wondered if my php database has somehow become corrupted, but I can't find where tags are stored. Maybe the db has nothing to do with the problem...

    Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

    (I ran my site through the code checker and it seems all the errors it comes up with are related to ampersands in my Amazon affiliate code.)

    have you tried:

    -deactivating ALL plugins temporarily to narrow down and possibly fix the problem. If the problem goes away, activate them individually (one-by-one) to find the problematic plugin.

    -switching to the default theme for a moment by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes. The idea is to force WordPress to fall back to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific issue.

    I have not had any problems with my theme and no changes have been made to it recently - it's been functioning perfectly for well over a year. So I am reluctant to deactivate it because my site is very active 24/7.

    This seems to have started happening since I added JetPack and upgraded WordPress. So I'll check into the plugins and see if that helps.

    Hmmm, strange. I deactivated JetPack and even more tags disappeared in the tag cloud. So I reactivated it (including its annoying habit of making you connect to JetPack again), and all the tags that had disappeared were back again.

    It seemed like JetPack needed to be reinitialized. JetPack has been giving me other grief that I've reported and they have said they're working on - it lost all my incoming links and reports 0 incoming, where I actually have many. Fortunately I can check that in Google Analytics, but for some reason JetPack is messing with my site.

    For now, my tag cloud issue seems to be resolved.

    Okay, so now that I have the tag cloud sorted out, suddenly the "Recent Posts" are all SNAFUed - not even close to being current.

    What the heck is going on??
