    Hello,
I'm a new user on WP. About three weeks ago, I ran update, and later noticed that my widgets were displaying an error message when I tried to click into it. I continued to work and ignored it because of the urgency of my work. Last week, I ran the 3.3.1 update and that caused my account to come up with an error such that I could not even sign in. So I got my hosting company (Hostable.com) to restore my files to a date prior to the update that I ran. I continued to work on this for the last 2/3 days, and ignored the update request. However, suddenly yesterday, the system crashed and I was unable to sign in. The following is the error that I am now getting: Fatal error: Call to undefined function set_current_screen() in /home/thenige1/public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 142.
This error is similar to what I got when I had run the update I did last week.
Please help to restore my account as well as widgets that I am unable to get through to.
    Thanks,
    KOLA OLUTIMEHIN

    Try:
    - switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming your current theme's folder in wp-content/themes and adding "-old" to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin.

    - re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of WordPress.

    - re-running the upgrade via wp-admin/upgrade.php

    Hello Esmi,
Thank you for your kind response. The resetting of the plugins folder did not work as we were still unable to sign in. Had the following error: Fatal error: Call to undefined function set_current_screen() in /home/thenige1/public_html/wp-admin/admin.php on line 142.
    What else can do?
    Best regards,
    KOLA

Please re-read my post above. None of the suggestions I gave require you to login to your WP site.

    Hello,

I too have had a total crash of my site. Tried to add a piece of code and it got all screwed up. Went back and removed what I put in and the site was still screwed up. Got the message below. Can someone help? Can't log in to site. Where do I start?

    Thanks,
    Rob

@rasarahomes: It is considered impolite to interrupt another poster's thread. Please post your own topic.

    Hello Esmi,
Thanks for your kind comments and support. In "resetting the plugins folder", the link says the following:
...Or reset your plugins folder via FTP or the file manager provided in your host's control panel.
Via FTP or your host's file manager, navigate to the wp-contents folder (directory)
Via FTP or your host's file manager, rename the folder "plugins" to "plugins.hold"
Login to your WordPress administration menus (/wp-admin)
Via FTP or your host's file manager, rename "plugins.hold" back to "plugins"

This was why we attempted a login. In the mean time, I had has asked that the files be restored, which we carried out.

    Thanks for your help.
    KOLA
