    Hello!

I am running a non-profit website which is old and outdated. It is already hosted by a local host. However, I want to not only change the host, but also convert the website, which is a .org URL, into WordPress. Here are my questions:

    1) Can I use a host that is not listed on your suggested host sites, like a local one in my town?

    2) Will I be able to keep the same domain name/URL of .org status if I change to WordPress?

    3) How do I begin to do that?

    4) What is the cost of operating a WordPress.org website per month or year?

    Help!

Thank you so much, I could use all the help I can get.

    Sure! Those are just suggestions.

"Change to wordpress"? I don't follow.

    3) How do I begin to do that?

    Ask your hosting provider.

Thanks Tara for answering my questions.

To clarify, will I be able to keep my domain name with having to place the .wordpress.org in there?

We have a bunch of materials with our website domain name and I don't want to change it.

    Thanks so much!

Yes, you can install your self-hosed WP in its own seprate directory if you want:

You can't put wordpress.org in there - self-hosted sites are not related to WordPress.ORG in the same way WordPress.COM hosted sites are.

Perhaps you're not clear on the two "types" or WordPress - see:

BTW, at least one of the recommended hosting companies gives free hosting to non-profits.
