• I would like to try out some new themes, particulary twenty eleven. When I switch from my current theme, will I lose any customised code? That is, when I switch back to my current theme after trying a new one, will everything be exactly as it is now including changes I have made over time, or will my current theme default to its original state?

  • Everything should be retained as-is. All Theme mods (Widget settings, header image, background, menus) are stored in the database, on a per-Theme basis.

    Thanks, Chip.

Another question, if I may. I’ve just been previewing a few themes and notice that most of them mess up my current layout in various ways (eg: font sizes that are uniform on my current theme vary in some paragraphs when switching to a new theme; text captions currently under photos move to beside the same photos when theme is switched; my ‘Categories’ and other side menu headings disappear and all I get is ‘Archives’ with most themes I’ve previewed).

There are a couple that faithfully reproduce the appearance of my blog as it appears with my current theme.

Any idea why the majority (it seems) of themes alter the current appearance of my blog in some aspects, as per the examples above?

Is it relatively simple to modify the themes that do not exactly reproduce my blog appearance, so that all appears as it does currently?

    Cheers!
    Ross
