Switching from host to me (4 posts)

I have a website (www.doublygifted.com) that has a blog, which I have ignored for over a year due to a myriad of family issues, those issues also contributing to the demises of the website. The website host is shutting it down as of 1/31/13.
I want to be able to start my own blog with the same web address. What's the procedure/process for doing this? I would appreciate simple and clear responses as I really don't know much about blogging and WordPress and this is going to be a long and steep learning curve for me.
    Thank you!

Is the old site using WordPress? If so, what version of WordPress?

Do you want to use the content from the old site in the new one?

I think your best bet would be to use Tools -> Export to download the content from your old site. Then set up a completely new install on your new site with a temporary url (your new hosts should be able to help you with this url) and import the old content whilst your old site is still running.

Then, once the new site is running to your satisfaction, you can switch the domain name over to the new site, wait for about 72 hours to allow the change to propagate fully and then change the urls on the new site to http://www.doublygifted.com. See Changing_The_Site_URL for details of how to do this.

If you just take it one step at a time, it should be relatively straightforward.
