Hi, I am going to create a WordPress website for my friend but I want to create it at the same time as having his previous one live.
Is there any way I can set up WordPress on my own server, complete the whole website, then change it over when its finished?
I am talking about a straight server install of WordPress, not wordpress.org.
Please advise me with the best option to go for.

Is this a wordpress.com site or a self-hosted WordPress install?

Hi, its a self hosted install.
Then review Moving_WordPress. You might find it easier to install the new site in a sub-folder on your friend's server and then see Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory.
