WP Retina 2x
[resolved] SVG images (7 posts)

    Hi,

I recently started using the WP Retina plugin and I'm generally happy.
Looking at my logs, I realised that the plugins also tries to find high resolution images for SVG files, like for instance:

    http://wiesmann.codiferes.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/World_IPv6_launch_logo@2x.svg

I don't think this makes much sense, as typical svg files are resolution independent.
While doing this lookup does not break anything, it is generally wasteful and I think that case could be optimised away.

Interesting, I have to agree, it makes no sense at all.

Yes, this is really stupid, I agree :)

Which method are you using by the way? I will definitely patch this in the next version for the HTML Rewrite method.

I'm not sure what you mean by "method". The SVG files are copied to web server outside of the scope of wordpress, and then I add the tags by hand. So basically the html that references the image is outside of the scope of the plugin/wordpress.

In the plugin settings, there are 3 methods to deliver the content. You didn't knew?

The default one is called the client-method, and uses "retina.js", a very famous JS library. I would be surprised that it doesn't handle the SVG correctly though, since it has a huge community behind it...

Oh, sorry, I'm using Client side: Retina.js.

Okay, so here is the problem: https://github.com/imulus/retinajs/issues/30

We need to kick the dev a little, then I will definitely include the new version in the plugin. Meanwhile, I will update the HTML Rewrite method to skip the SVG.
