Strange — I guess forum posts are automatically closed after two years? Unfortunately I can’t seem to re-open the thread.
Maybe you can help me understand the underlying issue. Does it take too long to import? Is it difficult to find the folders you want to display? Would a search function help?
Am I right in thinking that the sync goes by date that the reference was added? The sync has to go through about 800 items before it gets to the new one that I added for my blog post. I just thought that selective import/sync would cut down on server stress. I’m having no difficulty finding the references that I’m using and it doesn’t take very long. I’m just an efficiency nut. 🙂
BTW, you are awesome at quickly responding to the questions in the forum. Thank you!

Zotero is currently in the process of implementing a more efficient way to update items (I’m hoping for a list of new or updated items since last import). I don’t think it’s possible to sort by added or updated date at this time. The sync starts from page 1 and goes for however many pages there are in the library — looking at my library, this should account for the new items, but probably not the updated ones. Sorry, and I’ll keep looking into it.
I agree with this suggestion. I does not make sense to make the sync of all the items in the Zotero database if you are not going to use most of them in your WordPress installation. I have for instance actually 2.635 items in my Zotero database. I need them for researching and citing in papers. But for WordPress I just need (for the moment) only those items which contains my publications (only 200 items). So why not add the possibility to select by collection and to reduce the workload for ZotPress and the time for sync or re-import.
BTW: I believe this would also very helpful for you to solve problems with the plugin as users can easily reduce their amount of data. To track my sync problems I had to create a new Zotero account and to start from scratch to watch was happens (See my other thread.)

This is a bit difficult to do, but possible. I would have to make a number of requests to the server just to set up the view, e.g. one to get the top level collections, and then one per collection to get the subcollections associated with it; note each request can take up to 30 seconds to complete. But even so, it would always be far less time than the current method. Ideally I’d like to autoupdate just the items that are changed, so you’d only have to do one big import (unless you drastically changed your library at some point). Still this may be a good temporary measure.
Thank you so much for considering the suggestion, even if it isn’t possible to implement.

I’ll certainly see what I can do. 🙂
