Suggestion : an admin-side search among admin menus (5 posts)

    Hello,

As time passes, managing various blogs with various plugins and customizations, I find myself wasting more and more time trying to find precise pages inside the wordpress administration pages.

And it came to me : wordpress needs an admin-side search feature !

We type one or several keywords, and we're shown a refined list of the various admin-side pages containing the keyword (or all of the keywords, not OR but AND).

A bit like the pleasant feel brought by MS-Windows adding at last the search feature to the "Start" menu.
Or else, if it has to require to hit a "search" key and browse a list of results, so be it. But there aren't so many items in a wordpress admin that it can't be listed in advance, I hope.

What do you think of it ? Wouldn't it make wordpress even more cozy to use ? I sure think so :)

Well, that was just my two cents, contributing with a good idea, at least in my opinion !
Best regards everyone, have a good summer !

Maybe I should have added this precision, that the menus in the Settings section are not sorted alphabetically and it's extremely confusing.

But rather than a quick fix (everything save the default menus being sorted alphabetically), I think my idea's better :)

Thanks Ipstenu, it's good to know of the existence of that plugin, however it's something different from what I envision.

I may be mistaken, but this plugin only concerns the pages, as opposed to posts, right ?

What I'm suggesting is to cover EVERYTHING inside the administration panel.

    - The Posts/Media/Links/Pages/Appearances/Plugins sections are mostly always the same, I never saw new items added to them.
    - However, the Users and Tools section has frequently new items added because of users management plugins or security.
    - And when it comes to the Settings section, it's chaos, dozens of things can be added to it in random order.
    - And then there are the optional additional menus added below, most of them with subparts.

See all that mess ? If you manage different blogs with different plugins, each plugin may add its entry into a random location. In the end it's mentally tiring to remember where a menu is located, or to have to search for it every time.
A quick search feature would fix it, and WordPress would be once again making the life of the webmasters more agreable :)

I may have chosen the wrong words previously, if so I apologize. But I hope my suggestion is clearer now :)

  4. Ah, no, I grabbed the wrong plugin :) Though that would be what I'd use to start forking into what you want. There isn't one that, 100% does what you need alas :/
