   I was using Post Thumbs Revisted, however, I've been reading some things about it lately, namely that's been hacked and that's it not compatible with with the latest versions of WP. Any solid suggestions?

   Version 2.9 has a new thumbnail capability that you may want to look for...expected final release in December.

   Can anybody else recommend a plugin that automatically grabs the first image in a post and then display it in the post brief on the home page? Most of the ones I'm finding require the user to crop the photo, do this, do that, etc.

   Any thoughts?

   PS - At this point I can't really wait for WP version 2.9 as my client needs this working now.

   does everything you need , pulls the first image and uses it as custom field .

   Can't really beat a good template + timthumb. Try locking that up! :)

   I should have been more clear. I'm trying to get a plugin that works with NextGen gallery, thus having it grab the first photo of an inserted gallery. All these other plugins work if you insert individual images into a post, but not a gallery. I'm trying to save my client work and thus just allow them to insert the shortcode per gallery, then have the plugin grab the first image from this gallery, like it was before. Post Thumbs Revisited was a Godsend after checking out all these other plugins. I wish the plugin author would bring it up to date.
