[resolved] Suggest a sequence to upgrade incrementally from 2.0? (6 posts)

I'm upgrading incrementally from 2.0.5. Have successfully upgraded to 2.1.

Can you suggest an appropriate sequence of WP versions that I should go through? Are there any I can skip?

Also, the upgrade instructions say to deactivate plugins. Deactivating Akismet for just a few minutes resulted in a bunch of spam. Any way around this? Thanks.

2.1 to 2.3 to 2.5 to 2.7 seems to work even though in theory a direct shot from 2.1 to 2.7 should work.

    2.05 > latest in 2.2 > latest in 2.3 > latest in 2.6 branch > 2.7

thats about as much skimping as I would do. it takes minutes to do these, as you dont have to upload the stuff inside wp-includes/js until the very end.

2.1 and 2.2 use the same db schema (i think)

Also, the upgrade instructions say to deactivate plugins.

Yes, and no. do it and deal with the spam after.

Also Akismet has a "check for spam" button so you can just turn it off, do your upgrades, then activate it and check the queue for spam.

    Success! I upgraded from 2.0.5 > 2.1 > 2.3 > 2.5.1 > 2.7. It's a thing of beauty.

Deactivated Akismet, and dealt with the spam after the last upgrade.

    Thank you everyone.
