When I buy a domain at one.com and use the domain on the WordPress-blog, then there are suddenly NO visitors.
If you are comparing a WordPress.COM site to a self-hosted WordPress.ORG site, that’s because WordPress.COM is a giant network of sites – so you benefit and get visitors from other sites on the network. Self-hosted WordPress.ORG sites are not connected to each other.
If both sites are hosted on WordPress.COM – and you are asking about one of them using a custom domain name, it’s likely due to SEO “benefits: from having “wordpress” in the domain name. But you need to ask WordPress.COM questions here:

Didn’t know about the difference between WordPress ORG and COM.
And no, haven’t submitted to Google Webmasters – I have zero knowledge in that area. But will definitely take a look at it.

If I strive to build a successful blog, should I then buy the domain at, say one.com and install wordpress there?
Or should I buy the domain at wordpress.com and keep the blog there?

See this doc on the differences between .COM and .ORG – http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ – it generally depends on what you want to do with your site and how much you want to deal with backend work.
