I work on a blog that has a custom template that the images have suddenly shifted to the left on when viewing the category pages. Does anyone know why this happened and what to do about it? Is it a WordPress bug or what?

No - it's not a core WordPress bug. Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS work.
