[resolved] Sudden footer misalignment (4 posts)

    I've had the PhotoFlash theme from SLR Lounge installed for several months now and it always looked perfect. Last week(or maybe the week before?) I got the newest wordpress update and now the footer is hugely misaligned and the flashfader slideshow on the header is slightly off by a pixel or two leaving a white strip along the left edge. Again, neither of these things were problems before I made the update. I've got another friend using the same theme who went through the update just like I did and isn't experiencing this issue though, so frankly I have no idea what's going on here.

    I know enough css and xhtml to generally get by, but I'm not a pro coder. I've tried everything I can think of short of reinstalling the theme(I did quite a bit of customization to it when I first set it up and would hate to have to spend all that time again), but I just don't know enough. Can anyone tell me what my problem is and how to correct it so that the footer lines up properly again? It's making me insane.

    Thank you for your time!

    Hi Amanda,
    That is odd, because if you customized the theme only, and didn't update the theme itself, I would think that updating WP would not hurt it. Just as you probably thought. (A theme update, of course, could blow away your changes.)

    My next thought was that you had customized Twenty Ten, and that theme does get overwritten when WP is updated because it's standard equipment. Not that either. Weird. Unless you did an update, say, from 2.7 to 3.04... big version jumps like that can be problematic, especially if you live and die by plugins.

    Anyhow, I can probably help you with your footer! I added "width" to the following CSS as per below:

    .footer {
      background-color: #F4F4F4;
      border-top: 2px solid #901B1B;
      float: left;
      height: 100%;
      margin-left: 15px;
      padding: 10px 0;
      position: relative;
      width: 1000px;
    }

    But that still didn't finish the job. It looks like you added some new code to your footer.php, maybe? If so, take a peek in there, and look for the spot that begins with....

    <div style="padding: 15px 0pt; background-color: ...

    and add this little beauty just before the word "padding" above, and don't leave out the semi-colon...

    width: 1000px;

    That should help.
    Cheers, Dave

    btw, if your theme has its own forum, they'll be the best source for figuring what caused the whole thing - we here are mostly not familiar with SLR themes. Good luck!

    Thank you Flamenco! Unfortunately neither worked, but I really appreciate the time you took to reply.

    The SLR theme does have it's own forum, but it seems that replies are very slow to come over there so I had hoped that maybe it was an easy fix and one of the brilliant folks here could pin down the problem for me more quickly.

    Thanks again :)

    I take that back, it did work!!! I had to put it in a different .php file than the footer(sildebar.php for this theme), which was probably what was messing me up all along!!!

    Thank you Flamenco!
