I've been struggling with a multisite setup that I just can't seem to get right.
I initally tried to do this [http://wordpress.org/support/topic/need-http-for-add-on-domains-under-multisite-thats-https?replies=4], but after trying several solutions, gave up and decided to completely reinstall under http (still using the softaculous installer my webhost provides) and use the https plugin [http://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-https/] to handle the secure parts.
however i could not get that to work and after a couple of retries, finally giving in and trying to install (under http) WP-MS the manual way, according to the docs [link], and also this article [http://wordpress.org/plugins/ssl-subdomain-for-multisite/].
Now i'm running into an issue whereby my main site works fine, and my subsites come up, but trying to access the dashboard for the subsites redirects me to "https://https/wp-admin/". see for yourself by trying to access the dashboard from this site (nothing up there yet because i just reinstalled): http://rosecircle.global-dialog.org/
I'm guessing this must be an .htaccess issue. I made sure to copy and paste the suggested .htaccess from the domain setup screen, as well as the .htaccess that the softaculous installer prepared for me, when i tried that. and i've tried using the suggested .htaccess rules from the following forum posts to no avail:
    -- http://wordpress.org/support/topic/wordpress-35-breaks-subdomains-for-multisite-networks?replies=14
    -- http://wordpress.org/support/topic/user-sites-dashboards-page-not-found?replies=9
    --http://wordpress.org/support/topic/subdomain-on-multisite-inaccessible-through-ssl
and even these, though it wasn't exactly the error i am getting
    --http://wordpress.org/support/topic/fresh-install-subfolder-multisite-infinite-redirect-loop-sub-blog-login
    --http://wordpress.org/support/topic/login-redirection-page-for-all-multisite
    --http://tommcfarlin.com/resolving-the-wordpress-multisite-redirect-loop/
I've followed all the directions here [http://codex.wordpress.org/Create_A_Network] to the letter -- twice from scratch.
I'm not a UI-only user -- i'm comfortable with code and -- i thought -- no stranger to .htaccess and ModRewrite. However I'm at a total loss at this point. Any and all help appreciated.

i've also used this site http://htaccess.madewithlove.be/ to check the .htaccess and it seems not to be doing anything weird. What am i missing?

  3. decided to completely reinstall under http (still using the softaculous installer my webhost provides)

Okay, we generally DO NOT suggest you do this. Install WP the normal way, it'll get you more comfortable with the moving parts. But that's not the issue here (I HOPE!).

but trying to access the dashboard for the subsites redirects me to "https://https/wp-admin/".

    http://rosecircle.global-dialog.org/wp-admin looks right to me...

    thanks for your help Ipstenu!
i know my original post was a tad long but deep in there i described that after the 2nd Softaculous install failed to resolve the issue, i DID reinstall the "normal way".
And after an aquaintance said the same thing you did - "looks right to me" i discovered that i had somewhere along the line solved the problem and was continuing to bang my head on an uncleared Firefox cache!!!
    D'OH!
anyway let this be a lesson to others -- don't overthink it, try multiple browsers, and clear your &)@(#$&!!! CACHE!!!
    :)
anyway, thanks again for your help....
