   Where can I get a plugin for subscription by email like the widget placed on the right here?

   Also why is there a blog subscription feature on the blogs under http://www.wordpress.com and not on wordpress on wordpress.org

   Because every server is different and there's no one perfect plugin that works on all of them.

   http://subscribe2.wordpress.com/ is pretty popular
