Support » Plugin: Subscribe2 - Form, Email Subscribers & Newsletters » Subscribe2 Plugin and Form have vanished

  • I have a curious problem with a website I have inherited to run.

    It appears that a WordPress update has removed the Subscribe2 plugin and the form has vanished from the subscribe page.

    I know that Subscribe2 used to work on the site as people are still getting new post notifications.

    I am hesitant to re-install Subscribe2 in case this interferes with the existing database – but I need to get control of the existing database as people cannot unsubscribe.

    If anyone has experience with this situation I would very much appreciate any suggestions or advice.

    Thanks!

  • @h0ratio,

    If Subscribe2 is not listed on your plugins page then it can’t be sending emails. Are you sure you are not using another emailing plugin?

    I can assure you that it is still sending emails.

    The widget and the form have vanished but there remains a tick box at the bottom of the new post page that allows you NOT to send to the database. It sends to the database by default unless you tick this box – as you will probably be aware.

    I have tried to reinstall Subscribe2 but it resulted in a fatal error and will not reinstall.

    Do you know if there is any way to access the Subscribe2 database or where it would be situated? Thanks!

    @h0ratio,

    There are plugins out there that look very similar to Subscribe2 – Follow for example is an identical copy of the Subscribe2 code base from a couple of years ago and installing the two side by side results in activation errors.

    I reiterate, If Subscribe2 is not listed on your plugins page then it can’t be sending emails.

    Mattyrob,

    I appreciate what you are saying but how do you account for this? It appears at the bottom of the new article post page:

    “Subscribe2 Notification Override

    Check here to disable sending of an email notification for this post/page [ ]”

    I can only assume you have not read the detail in my previous notes if this is not making sense to you.

    And the fact that Subscribe2 corrupts when trying to install indicates to me that it in fact actually was taken out by a previous update.

    @h0ratio,

    What is the exact error message when you try installing Subscribe2?

    As I said above there are other plugins that copy the Subscribe2 exactly so what might appear to be Subscribe2 is not.

    Mattyrob,

    I have just searched for Subscribe2 again and I am told that version 10.13 is installed.

    The coder apparently is y Matthew Robinson, tanaylakhani.

    I cannot activate the plugin as I receive the following:

    Plugin could not be activated because it triggered a fatal error.

    Warning: require_once(/home3/freedom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/follow/classes/class-s2-core.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home3/freedom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2/subscribe2.php on line 69

    Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required ‘/home3/freedom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/follow/classes/class-s2-core.php’ (include_path=’.:/opt/php54/lib/php’) in /home3/freedom/public_html/wp-content/plugins/subscribe2/subscribe2.php on line 69

    Any light you may be able to shed on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    H.

    @h0ratio,

    That error message confirms exactly what I’ve been telling you – you have the Follow plugin installed and active already and it duplicates almost all of the Subscribe2 code.

    You are not using Subscribe2, you are using Follow. Deactivate it and the emails will stop.
