Subdomain or sub directory setup?

    Can anyone explain, or point me to a resource, on the implications (if any) of choosing either the subdomain or sub-directory set up for multisite?
    Assuming your server setup supports both options, how would one determine which set up to use?

    Personal preference. Also, SEO implications. One is not better than the other, they are just different.

    Subdomains will mostly bee seen as separate sites.
    Subfolders will be seen as part of the main domain, as if they were “just” a page.

    What about if you are using domain mapping? Which one will end up being easier to manage in the long run?

    Doesn’t matter.

    Folders are easier in the sense you won’t have to setup the wildcards. If you’re hiding the original site’s url, then it really REALLY doesn’t matter. 🙂
