Subcategory Page Listing Posts in the Subcategory

Is there a way to list the posts in a subcategory the same way the category template does it.

For instance, if I have a category mortgages and a subcategory 30year under the mortgages category, when I visit http://www.mysite.com/mortgages/30year/ I want to list each post in the 30 year subcategory with an excerpt exactly like happen in the mortgages category by default.

Right now on my site if I go to http://www.mysite.com/mortgages/30year/ it take me to the first post in the subcategory such as mysite.com/mortgages/post1in30yearsubcategory/.

My permlink is set up with /%category%/%postname%/ and a category base of . in order to remove the default category base.
