Sub-Page Permalink is Site URL and Can't Edit (4 posts)

I have the following page structure:
    About
    - About PSP
    - The people of PSP

For some reason the sub-page About PSP does not have a permalink other than the root of the site, and there is no edit button to change this. It used to have a permalink and it used to work correctly, but I think this changed after updating to 3.1.

So clicking on the menu item for this page - or even entering the full permalink as it was redirects to the site root and not the page.

So I trashed this page and created a clone - but with a sightly different permalink than originally - "2" appended. But after doing this all content disappeared from the root index.

To get the site working again I had to restore the original page. But the problem remains and I can't find a way to fix it.

Has anyone had any experience of this or suggestions?

Do any of the issues regarding permalinks outlined here relate to your problem?

    Have you tried:

    - checking through Troubleshooting WordPress 3.1 - Master List

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

Thanks for your suggestions. I could not find the issue in the 3.1 troubleshooting page.

    I tried the following:

Changed theme to Twenty Ten: this had the effect of the sub page not appearing in the menu. So there has got to be some property of that post that is filtered out by Twenty Ten.

Disabled all the plugins: This had no effect.

My workaround was to change the published status to draft. The page no longer appears in the menu and there no effect on the content.

This is not satisfactory though - a new administrator might one day delete this draft post and all content will disappear.
