• Hi all, I have just moved from wordpress.com to wordpress.org and have had to re-do my website using the hatch theme… in wordpress.com everything worked perfectly; ie. pages listed up the top as menu’s and then drop-down menu’s as sub-pages below, like they should, now I can’t get drop-down menu’s to work as sub-pages, and I can’t upload any images.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    site is mininglegacies.org

  • Looking at the source code, I can see this:

    <div class="menu"><ul id="menu-primary-items" class=""><li id="menu-item-1575" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-1575"><a href="http://www.mininglegacies.org/about-2/">About</a></li>
    <li id="menu-item-1539" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-1539"><a href="http://www.mininglegacies.org/legacies-intro/">Submit</a></li>
    <li id="menu-item-1538" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-1538"><a href="http://www.mininglegacies.org/map/">Map</a></li>
    <li id="menu-item-1576" class="menu-item menu-item-type-post_type menu-item-object-page menu-item-1576"><a href="http://www.mininglegacies.org/mines/">Mines</a></li>
    </ul></div>

There’s no submenu in there. Did you make a custom menu? If so, can you make some of the pages sub-pages and hit save?

    Why did you:

have had to re-do my website using the hatch theme…

Did you test first with default theme and then see issues?

Cheers for the responses, I’m probably not using the right jargon re: sub-menus and sub-pages,

I have main ‘parents’ like Mines then I link the associated pages to them like
    Mines
    – QLD
    –Baal Gammon

For example, when I did this in wordpress.com it would come up as sub-menu’s.

    Does that make sense?

I had to re-build because when the site switched to wordpress.org all of the content and structure didn’t go with it.

    Cheers,
    jessie

I did make a custom menu so that the pages would show up on the main page. How do i make some of the pages sub-pages? Sorry for stupidity..

When you create a page there is an option presented…review this here:

    (Can be edited later)

That said, I would use a custom menu and add what I want site visitors to see the most…’menus’ do not drive visitors to your site… they allow them to navigate it with ease…

Make all cats flat, make Pages flat (0 <===) and then work on your menu…

I don’t understand.. make all cats flat? make pages flat? then work on the menu?

Thanks, I didn’t know you could drag the menus right to make a sub-menu. Cheers for all the help.

If you have already set either Pages or Posts with a parent-child relationship, then some themes and plugins will (eventually) fail…use a flat pattern = all have no parents/all pages and posts are flat…add menu…learned this long ago…
