Sub domain not working. (10 posts)

This very likely a common question. But I am not sure where to look for the answer.

I have installed a multisite, added the various info from the instructions, added a wildcard and then I hit the forked road. sub-domain or sub-directories. Usually I select the sub directories, but it has been a while now so I thought I would test out the sub domain option. Which I did but the two new sub sites are not showing up:

    http://fragments-of-a-walk.mytestingbox.com/wp-admin/
    http://themify.mytestingbox.com/wp-admin/

Where do I go from here?

  2. Depends on what the error is.

    Does http://fragments-of-a-walk.mytestingbox.com/ work?

I checked the wildcard and noticed it was set to the wrong domain, so I reset it to mytestingbox.com. But that was like 5-6 hours ago. At least with the above sites I am now getting a 404 error, so I will check in a while again and see if they come up.

Thanks Ipstenu for being there once again!

  4. DNS can take (alas) up to 72 hours to propagate (usually less).

Alrighty..... I'll check in a few days... Thanks for the info!

  6. If you're getting a 404, is it a server 404 or is it the one you get on your main site?

Correctly configured wildcard DNS would point <anything>.domain.com to domain.com, and attempt to resolve it via WordPress, so you actually would get something, other than a 404.

So this means I am doing something wrong.

Yesterday I added this 2-3 minute multi site error video. Called I am stuck.

  8. If this is your REAL site: http://themify.mytestingbox.com/

Then the error is that your wildcards aren't pointing to the right place is all :)

    See: https://my.bluehost.com/cgi/help/527

You have to forcibly tell it to go to the document root :/ I don't think it's smart enough to 'know' on its own.
