   I tried to set up sub categories by clicking on post; categories; add new; gave it a title; chose the parent category in the drop down menu.

   Instead, I get these subcategories listed as parent categories on my blogsite, while the parent category is not listed at all. What did I do wrong?

   Thank you Shane. What I want is when you click on a category, it will bring up a menu with all the sub-categories. In other words I don't want all the sub categories to appear on the main category list. Is there a way I can do this?

   You'd need to create a special category template for your top level category pages which could then display links to the child categories.
