Styling Navigation Menu

Hey I resolved my other issue with being to edit menus.

I want to know how to style them. I’ve tried the array variables listed on the wordpress codex for it but it doesn’t work the way I want.

essentially I’m trying to get the parent pages to be styled differently from the daughter pages.

if you go to leaguespirit.com on the left hand side you’ll be able to see what i mean, that the menu and i just want to style it but can’t find a good tutorial anywhere for that.
