• So I have installed mamp, it’s up and running, I made a local folder inside htdocs, extracted all wordpress files, changed the info on wp-activate and I input http://localhost:8888/MAMP/wp-admin/install.php in my browser and it tell me this :

    Not Found

The requested URL /MAMP/wp-admin/install.php was not found on this server.

Please help me.. I am pulling out my hair. I have redone everything about 5 times and nothing.

  • I made a local folder inside htdocs,

Is “MAMP” the actual name of the directory you created for your wordpress files?

No all the wordpress files were extracted inside htdocs not inside a additional folder.

under my mamp settings the document root is set as follows:
    /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/

    What am I setting incorrectly.

Give one of these a try and see if it might work. I suspect the first one might do it.

    http://localhost:8888/wp-admin/install.php

    http://localhost/wp-admin/install.php

you know what i finally figured it out. the problem was that the folder with all the wordpress files was in the htdocs – I guess it was having trouble getting to it. I just set it in my desktop and it worked.

Hmm – what you describe is unusual – MAMP uses htdocs as its default folder. You may have changed it in the tab under ‘hosts’. Look at this url:
