I'm trying to do the update of WordPress 2.9.2 to 3.0. I went to the automatic update link, after doing my backup, and it tells me "Downloading update from http://wordpress.org/wordpress-3.0.zip."
It then sits there, doing nothing. I've left it for 2-3 hours, in case the download was just very slow, and it still didn't move from there.
What can I do to get past this? I'd prefer doing the automatic upgrade over the manual.
Regards
Chris
I think you'll have to do a manual upgrade in this case.
Looks like you're getting hung up on memory limit failures (only that the errors are not being shown). Install the Memory Bump plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/memory-bump/
Memory bump didn't work.
I've noticed the same issue happening with automatically updating some plugins.
Should I be disabling my plugins before attempting installation?
The instructions for WordPress always carried the disclaimer that all plugins should be de-activated before performing an upgrade but I've never had any trouble leaving them active while upgrading. It's worth a shot.
Which webhosting company are you using?
I'm getting the same as crobock - any solutions found?

Me too - very frustrating! Some plugins work fine, but most freeze at the "downloading update" phase...
I've checked my server error logs and I'm getting a zend_mm_heap corrupted message when one goes wrong... also each one leaves a tmp file hanging around in the wp-content directory.
If anyone has any ideas, they would be gratefully received!
