[resolved] Stray Random Quotes pluging shows no quotes after upgrade (6 posts)

After upgrading the Stray-Quotes plugin from 1.6.4 to 1.7, it gives me the following error message when I go to the manage quotes page:

Warning: Division by zero in /wp-content/plugins/stray-quotes/inc/stray_manage.php on line 246

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near '' at line 1]
    SELECT * FROM wp_stray_quotes ORDER BY <code></code> LIMIT 0,
You haven't entered any quotes yet.

After downgrading to the old version of the plugin it works fine again.

Does anyone have any suggestions why this is happening, or how it might be fixed?

Hi, I am the author of the plugin in question... I am looking into the problem... It certainly depends on how the page navigator in the management page behaves, it does not affect your quotes or anything (the quotes do not disappear, something goes wrong when the plugins tries to show them in the page). Can you tell me if before having this problem you changed any of the options in the options page, in particular the management page options? Also, how many quotes do you have roughly?

    Hi

    Thanks for responding.

I have 26 quotes in the database.

In terms of changing things on the admin page, do you mean on the previous version or on the new version. If you mean the new version, then the answer is no - I just installed the updated version & found that the options page was giving the message that I mentioned in my post above & on the website, where quotes should have been appearing it was also giving an error message.

Have you deactivated the old version first? If not, try deactivating and reactivating.

    Hmm...

I went through the exact same process as before, removing & then re-installing the plugin. It now seems to work fine. I can only think that somehow one of the files got corrupted somehow when I previously uploaded.

So the problem is solved, but i have no idea what caused it in the first place.

Thanks for the help & suggestions.

Oh, no, not at all, I know what caused the problem. If you don't deactivate the old and reactivate the new version, certain conversion operations cannot happen. Usually this is not an issue if you update automatically via wordpress. But if you just remove or overwrite the files, there can be problems at least with certain versions.
