I have just noticed that one of my posts on my blog (oldish post) now has a link to a PPI site run by someone called Paul Mason. I certainly didn’t put it there and I can’t seem to remove it. I have tried deleting all the text in the post leaving just the heading but when I go to ‘View Post’ the text and the link are still there. Can anyone help? I have Wordfence, is there another plug in that would stop people being able to put links into a post. The link is in the text and doesn’t show up when I try to edit the post but is there when anyone looks at the post itself.
Sorry this is so long, panicking a bit!

Can we see a link to the site, to check what the link may be?

I believe people can hack your site and add links and all sorts of stuff through XSS attacks, but I’m not 100% and I’m certainly no security expert. I’m not sure of any plugins that could prevent this. I think this happens with the way your forms, input fields etc. escape the HTML content before submitting it to the database.

Okay now to reveal my ignorance. I don’t really know how to take a screenshot. I think it is the prt sc button but where is the image stored?

You can upload it straight to the web http://snag.gy

    (@eherman24)

Yea, what Andrew has said. You can really use any free image hosting site, and then just paste the URL here.

Have you published that post yet? I don’t see any of that text on the page when I click it. All I see is the title and image.

    (@oldthom)

Yes. I have just looked again and reloaded the page, the text is there but it is above the image now

Have you tried deactivating all plugins and checking? Strange issue, seems like it may be coming from a plugin.

Yea I’m able to see it now , after refreshing my browser.

This is getting weird, The image you just showed me is what happened when I deleted the text to see if the link would go away. I put the text back and the link is still there. Can you see it in the screenshot?

I started to deactivate plugins but now W3 cache (i didnt deactivate W3 Cache)is giving the message

W3 Total Cache Error: some files appear to be missing or out of place. Please re-install plugin or remove /home/oldth940/public_html/wp-content/object-cache.php.

Yea W3 total cache is a wierd plugin as it required specific declerations in certain files and such. I keep finding stuff related to that link on google, but nothing telling me what it is or how it got there.
