[resolved] Storing Latitude and Longitude (2 posts)

I'm new to this AWCP and WordPress in general so please bear with me... :o)

I note that the the #1 feature is:

"1. Search ads by city, state, country, username, or keyword"

does that mean by latitude and longitude?

I want to create UK-based classified adverts that are tied to a specific map point. To do this on other platforms I have asked for and address on input, and then reverse geocoded this address (using google maps) to provide latitude and longitude, which I've then stored as part of the advert.

A page of adverts in a particular area ("search results") would require an input (lat, lng, radius) and would use the haversine formula to calculate those adverts falling within the radius of the search point.

Finally, I could link directly to a predefined set of results (for use with external sites) by putting the input position and radius on the querystring:

or via a "front page" that collects the above info and passes it through to the results page

Can WordPress + AWCP do this?

    Hi bbm70,

No, it doesn't. We support searching by terms and groups, using the Regions module. You can read about it in more detail here: http://awpcp.com/premium-module/regions-module. Basically, you associate a listing to a region and then we can filter on those regions to show you listings that match it.

The rest of your questions about are predicated on the lat/long bit, and AWPCP doesn't have support in it for that, so without extensive customizations that you'd have to provide, I don't think AWPCP is the right solution for this application if you must have lat/long search.
