   Can anyone tell me how stop the blog from pinging?

   I know you can remove the ping list from the text area,
   but I want make it not ping at all. I have removed the
   text box from the options-writing.php file.

   Will that stop the blog from pinging or do I need to do
   something to another file too? (update-links.php?)

   No, you do need to do something else. Go to Options > Discussions and make sure Attempt to notify any Weblogs linked to from the article is unchecked.
