either use ‘quick edit’ on the post, and tick ‘Make this post sticky’;
or edit post, and onthe right, under the ‘publish’ box, click ‘edit’ after ‘visibility’, then tick ‘Stick this post to the front page’, click ‘ok’ and ‘update’
this is exactly what we did. yet, the post does not stick. not even on the first page. we had the plugin “AStickyPostOrderER” installed, but were not too happy so we deactivated. might this have kind of “destroyed” the built in WP-sticky function? how can we repair?

Your theme might not support sticky posts; find a theme that supports it; like 2010 and see if that works.
