BruteProtect
[resolved] Stats? Privacy Policy? (5 posts)

I like the idea of this plugin, so I've enabled it for one of my WP sites. Question: What is being done with the data our sites submit to you? What entity is collecting the data? Could you add a privacy policy to the plugin, maybe just a link to the policy on the API request submission form? Suggestion: Stats, stats, we love our stats. A cool little chart on the dashboard or settings page would be nice. How many login attempts were there, how many were blocked, etc…

Hey Michael-- both of these items are on the list for an update this week.

With the current attack going on, I wanted to get the core functionality solid and out to the community ASAP, and I'll be circling back to add on the bells and whistles and supporting documentation.

In the meantime, here's the lowdown on privacy... information is ONLY stored in the event of a failed login attempt, and any failed attempts are deleted from the database after 30 days.

When a failed attempt is made, we log:

    • The IP the attempt is made from
    • The host name that the login attempt was made to
    • The time the login attempt was made

That's all. We don't care about the username, and the only email address we have is the email you use to sign up for the API key.

Once you install the plugin, you request one from within your WordPress dashboard (see http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bruteprotect/screenshots/ )

If you're having issues with this, please wait 30 minutes and try again. I've just completed moving our API server to a more robust platform, so there may be a slight delay in propagation.
