    Hi,

    I have a html website with wordress blog. You may check it here

    Now I want to shift the complete website to wordpress.I want even static website to move to wordpress.

    So, I have two options-

    1. Use different wordpress for blog and website, i.e. install a new wordpress exclusively for static website. In this case the link will be provided to blog. just a link

    2. Use the existing wordpress setup and use it for both blog and website. In this case the main page will be static but how can I customize static pages

    Kindly help me. Also, I want to shift blog from 2.7.1 to 3.0.4, so suggestion are welcome.

    @Rishi,

    I would use it for both website and blog. More work in the beginning, but you will only have to manage one installation moving forward and that will be easier.

    "In this case the main page will be static but how can I customize static pages"

    What do you mean when you say "customize"? A static page is just a normal WP page. I think what you're after is a way to display all the content you have on this static page. My suggestion would be to look for a "magazine" or "news" style theme that allows for customization of a main page using widgets.

    But I want the categories and sidebar not to come on static pages. Also, Can I now change the permalink to seo friendly? will this affect the existing posts with normal permalinks?

    Thanks for the great support.. I have one more query

    If I change the permalink structure to /postname (type 1) from /?p=124 (type-2), then the if some acceses type-2 link, will he be redirected to type 1 link automatically? Actually my blog in 2 yrs old

    Ok. Just realised that there is 1 more major issue.

    My blog is installed on mysite.com/blog while the with your suggestion of keeping the same WP for both static site + blog, I would have to shift it to mysite.com This way I will loose all my existing links, which are many.

    So, is there any way I can keep :

    Statis ages at mysite.com/%pagename%

    Blog posts at mysite.com/blog/%postname%
