• The question is: I can’t set a static page for the website to open with.

Do you know why and can I change that?

  • I have the same question.

Under “Appearance” I click on “Customize” and then I try to set my static page to a page that I have created, but when I do this what shows up on the site’s home page is just the three sliding image backgrounds with their pushpin, bouncy, paper tag.

(I do not want to set my most recent posts for the site to open with. I want a page.)

    Help!

    Hi,

If you want to display static page instead of default gallery page.

Please follows the given instructions below..

    1. Find the “front-page.php” file inside “analytical” theme folder.
    2. Now, just rename the file name with “_front-page.php” this name.

    That’s it.

Hope it would be helpful to you.

    Please let me know.

    Best!

So you are saying that the file needs to be renamed before it is uploaded?

I, of course, have found the file on the analytical theme that is already uploaded to my wordpress dashboard. I cannot find a way to rename a file from there, so I am assuming that it has to be done prior to being uploaded.

Unfortunately, I do not want to lose the editing that I have done to the theme. Is there a way to get around this – is there another way?

You cannot (EDIT – modify should have been rename) or add a file from the Dashboard. More importantly, these kinds of changes should be made using a child theme – otherwise all of the changes will be lost when the theme is updated. You should not modify any theme files directly.

I know that it cannot be done from the dashboard. That is why I assume that it has to be done prior to uploading it, correct?

You are so right about the child theme. I just did not know anything about that when I began. Thank you for the link. I will educate myself and do it.

I will educate myself and do it.

Yeah, it’s a bit more work now, but really, you don’t want to go there later. Believe me, we see very sorry situation of people either losing a whole lot of work or running into major problems from not being able to keep things updated.

Once you have the child theme set up, you can add any custom templates there – uploading via FTP.

Thanks Nishan, that did the trick 😉
