• Hi there,

I’m having a little problem with changing my home page. So far, I have changed my home page to a static page called ‘About Us’. I have changed my posts page to a page I called ‘News’. That’s all good.

The only problem is this. I believe that the ‘About Us’ link in the navigation bar is now redundant yet it still shows. See here – http://reedham.org.uk/wordpress/

Now, I found a vague answer to this query in another thread. Somebody suggested that the redundant link had been hard coded by the template designer and therefore needed to be removed from the code. Can somebody please confirm this? I’d also be really grateful if you could provide instructions as to what code I need to remove and where from.

I am using cover-wp template if that makes any difference.

    Many many thanks in advance.

Sorry, just thought I’d add that I’m assuming it’s the ‘About Us’ link that is now redundant. Maybe it’s the ‘Home’ link that is redundant and needs to be removed? Then I can rename ‘About Us’ to ‘Home’. Either way, I’d be grateful for any advice you might have. Thanks.

If you have a look at the urls both pages are pointing to the home page. I havent used your theme but you could set up a custom menu and assign it to main navgation using the about us as your first page. That should work. Only takes a couple of minutes and keeps you out of the code.

You could try asking on that theme’s dedicated forum: http://www.onedesigns.com/support/forum/theme-support/cover-wp-theme

@navitas Thank you for your response. My problem is not in changing the home page. I have already done as you say to make that change. The problem is with removing the duplicated link. ‘Home’ and ‘About Us’ both go to the same place so I need to remove the ‘Home’ link. Unlike the static pages, there is nowhere in the admin area to remove this page so I must have to take some code out. I have searched the forums and there is definitely a pattern. I need to remove something from this code in the header.php file. I reckon it’s going to be something in the 15 or so lines at the bottom. I have tried to guess exactly what I should remove but I haven’t had any success yet.

@esmi That is a good suggestion. I will wait a little while longer and see if anybody on this forum can help but if that fails, I will try to contact onedesigns.

I put code between backticks like instructed by the forum but that is against forum rules? Okay.

I just want to update this in case any future users come across it. Everything I’ve done is unnecessary. The solution to this problem is to create a custom menu. View a video named WordPress 3.0 Custom Menus Tutorial by iThemescom on youtube for instruction. It’s extremely easy.
