Static homepage settings causing nightmare (3 posts)

    Hi guys,

I'm pulling my hair out here...

I've trying to have my homepage etc. separate from my posts page. I've done the following:

    1. Created a 'Homepage' template (named 'Homepage').
    2. Created a new page in WP named 'Home' and set the template to 'Homepage'
    3. Created a page called 'Blog' and set its template to the default one.
    4. Set my Reading Settings to have the front page set to 'Home' and the posts page to 'Blog'.
    5. Set my Permalinks setting to day and name.
    6. Copied my the files in the root folder to the 'blog' folder which the 'Blog' page points to (though I think this is wrong).

Everything kind of works except when I click on a post etc. I get a 404 not found. I change the Permalink setting to something else and I get a 'too many redirects' error.

Sincere thanks in advance for any pointers or advice.

    Regards

    Jason

    Hi guys,

Everything works okay if permalinks are disabled but I don't won't to have the URL being /?page_id=123 for example. Also, would need to hard code the page ID.

I'm also pretty sure the 'blog' directory should be virtual and have nothing in it.

    Regards

    Jason

Okay, think I fixed it. My Apache didn't have the necessary module running (mod_rewrite).
