Static front page for categories? (5 posts)

Not sure if this is possible, but I would like to set up a static front page and a posts page, but have it work a bit differently than the options available under the Reading Options dashboard tab.

Instead of designating a Page for the static front page, I would like to designate only posts from a certain category.

Then, I would like to make posts from that category invisible on the posts page.

So, for example, one post from Category A only would show up on the front page, and this page would be updated each time a new post is posted to Category A.

On the "posts" page, all the posts from all the other categories, B-Z, show up and are updated as a normal blog.

I know the second part, excluding a category from the index page, is fairly easy. Is the first part possible?

    Thanks!

I think there's a Semiologic plugin, but a free one, too. hmmmm....

    How about these:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/front-page-cats/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/front-page-excluded-categories/
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/advanced-category-excluder/#post-2126

Last two have much better ratings, although they might be the opposite of what you want, which only means it could be a little bit harder to do what you want, but not nearly impossible.

To search for plugins, in the future, go to Extend > Plugins (Directory) > scroll down and search plugins! Easy peasy. Good luck.

Oh it seems like you want the third plugin, on further inspection. :-)

Of course, there are code hacks, if these don't work.

Here it is - love this stuff:

    "Query posts"

    It's more advanced, maybe. :-)

Only one to work perfectly for me was advanced-category-excluder.
http://codex.wordpress.org/User:JamesVL/query_posts <- this code was good, but I had some problems with it. I have limited my posts per page to 5. I have about 12 posts and when im tryin to change the page to page 2 to read posts 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10, it gives me again posts 1,2,3,4 and 5. I hope someone understands me... im tired :) Not problem anymore, but wanted you all to know this.

    Thank you everyone.
