Static Front Page: Displayed as Post, not Page

I am using the Static Front Page plug-in, but the page is being displayed as a post, cuasing some unwanted page elements, like a date, to be displayed. You can see an example of the unwanted behavior at http://joebolte.com/dev/wordpress/ and how I would like the page to be displayed at http://joebolte.com/dev/wordpress/?page_id=5
