• I read the instructions on how to create a Static Front Page at http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

I created two new pages “Home” and “Blog”

However, I can’t get rid of the original “Home” page.

I suspect the missing piece is in the instructions which say:

“Set the “Home” template to the default template or any custom template. Title your template as something other than home.php as this could cause a conflict.”

But I’m not a programmer and I have no idea what this is saying. It is totally unclear to me what to do next.

    What default template?

Can anyone clear this up with a step by step, please?

  • That has nothing to do with your problem. WordPress will use page.php (the default page template) automatically unless your theme has a front-page.php template file (in which case that template will be used automatically.

So how do I get rid of the extra “home” page?

Assuming that this is an extra home page link in your menu, it’s probably been hard-coded into the theme. You’d need to edit the relevant template file in your theme and remove it.

Do you have any idea what I should remove?

Would it say home + something?

    Thanks

If “Home” is what appears on your menu, then the word “Home” will be in there somewhere. If you could post the url of your site, we might even be able to give you something a lot more specific to look for.

I tried a different theme and it had a way to remove the link to the original home page, so now it works.

But if I use a different theme, I’d still like to know what to change in order to get it to do the same thing.
