I am new and thanks for the response.
First, what are the DB used for?
Secondly, is that enough for me?

you only need 1 DB for wordpress to run. 10DB should be plenty
DB, databases are where information from wordpress is stored. When you change settings, make posts, use plugins, etc...all the info is stored in the DB
I see, so like a new user and all the blogs are stored in one DB?
I thought each user got there own DB
Nerw users, profile info, etc would also go into the DB, you are correct
Everything goes into one DB. It's structured into various tables, etc......
Thanks so much for your input. Im new an have everything thru go daddy. Ill see how it goes. Any theme you can recommend?
I use godaddy (linux....use the linux option, not windows....it'll save you trouble) and it works very well
Theme is truly a matter of personal taste, and dependant on what you are trying to accomplish with your new site.
When I first got to WP, I could never find a theme, and finally set about making my own. I had absolutely no experience, but was able to do my own themes after a bit of trial and error.
I dont know Linux
I am a network Engineer for my company so I think I might be able to figure it out. It's going to be a golf forum. All club manufactures all clubs and reviews. Video lessons and of the like.
I also want blog in there to here from my customers.
You don't have to know linux....
It's the OS that the server runs...on shared hosting, you don't interface with it, you don't have to know a thing about it. I've never touched linux in my life
I started out using godaddy windows, and switched over cuz back in the day, WP wouldn't run at all on godaddy windows. It works now, but I still keep coming across people who have issues with it.
Plus, more of the software packages godaddy offers through their install service work on linux. It probably won't matter to you now, but in the future you may decide to expand.
Of course its a personal choice, just my suggestions. (just fyi, its free to switch, but it can take up to 24 hours for it to go through)
I have another question for you.
When I install on godaddy servers. Do I have to install on a local machine to make the adjustments and then upload to the server?
First, what are the DB used for?
The DB is your "database". Think of a database like a collection of Excel spreadsheets, and each spreadsheet (which we call a "table") holds certain pieces of info. For example, the "users" table holds info like username, first/last name, e-mail address, and scrambled passwords.
One DB is capable of holding over 1000 tables, though you will usually only have (or need) less than 100 tables.
Secondly, is that enough for me?
If you only need to be able to run 1 website on the hosting package, it would likely be fine.
On the other hand, if you're a developer like me, you may eventually want to try out new web applications or setup "test bed" sites for your clients to view. For this, it's always best to give each installation it's own DB, so that each is confined to that DB.
You could install several web applications and have them all rely on 1 DB, but to me that's a security issue, because if any of those applications got hacked (or had bad code) it would give the hacker access to ALL of your other tables, or the tables could be accidentally modified/deleted.
When I install on godaddy servers.
Dear God, please tell me you're kidding. :-( Do not use GoDaddy for ANYTHING - They are to "web hosting" like AOL is to "Internet service provider." Seriously, if you just signed up with them, call and get your money back.
Just my suggestion... Take a look at HostGator. ( http://www.hostgator.com ) They have excellent servers and give you UNLIMITED space / bandwidth / databases / e-mail / etc. for around $9.00/month without a contract. (Also, add the coupon "slickdeals" at checkout, and you'll get a $25.00 credit, which is like 2 free months.)
I have another question for you.
When I install on godaddy servers. Do I have to install on a local machine to make the adjustments and then upload to the server?
it's up to you really....depends on the adjustments too. I don't have a hugely popular websites (couple thousand hits a month). I'll do a lot of mods live, through godaddy's file manager. If I'm creating a theme or something more major, I have a second wp install in another folder that I'll test on and transfer over when done.
If you want to do a local setup, that's cool too. I've seen debates on here about what's best....seem's to come down to whatever works best for you. The important thing when working on a WP site is good backup practices. Backup your DB regularly, backup your WP files regularly....you'll be golden
Thanks for all the feed back. Ill look into all this right away!!
