    hi there
I have noticed something odd happening with uploaded images...but reading general forum it may not be a spun specific issue but i'm not sure so thought I'd check here first.

Just to explain design of my site. I am using only posts not pages. I have 9 posts and only one has images within it. For this post I am using the Aside format.

Within this post I created six galleries, each separated with a text heading/description. To insert the images I used the add media button, then I clicked on create gallery and I selected previously uploaded images to that particular gallery. I then clicked on insert into post.

I repeated the above for each gallery inserted into the post.
After fiddling around with number of columns etc... it looks fine.

However the problem I have discovered is that if i click on one of the photos say photo 1 of gallery 1, it comes up with an enlarged version of the photograph which is what i want. But in order to see the next photo (2) in the same gallery I would assume clicking on that photo or clicking on the side navigational arrows would allow someone to scroll through photos in the order in which they appear in the gallery. However this does not happen. It seems that the order of the photos are random and therefore it's a bit annoying as that was the whole point of using separate galleries as they each come under a different heading. The other annoying thing is it also shows images not uploaded onto the post for example my logo image.

As a test I created a new post with just a few images and the same issue occurs. ie: when clicking through photos I can see all the photos uploaded into media library rather than just the post specific photos.

Has anyone found the same problem?

    thanks

Hmm, it seems to work properly on the demo, but that's only one gallery in one post.

My guess is the last WP update makes this challenging. Prior to that update, we could only insert one gallery per post. Now, with the ability to create multiple galleries per post, the single attachment image page code doesn't account for that -- it just sees all the attachments as one big gallery.

If you switch your theme to Twenty Twelve, you'll probably have the same issue -- it's coded in a similar way. And the theme Spun is based on, _s, uses the same code, too. I don't have a fix at the moment, we'll have to take a longer look at the problem.

A hacky fix is to create a new post for each gallery, then use the gallery shortcode to include them within another post.

    [gallery id="1234"]

Where 1234 is the ID of the other post containing the gallery. That should keep the galleries separate, while allowing you to display them in one post.

    Hi Caroline

I did try something similar to what you suggested but it seemed to be doing the same. I do think it's a wordpress issue though not the theme.

However just to be clear that I understood your suggestion:
I now have 5 galleries in 1 post.
I should create 5 posts each with 1 gallery inside.
Then in a 6th post called Photos, I just insert the gallery shortcode for all 5 galleries. I then should delete my original post.

The only issue I can see with this is I would not want all the 6 posts to be visible just the Photos one I created...however if I then set the other 5 to draft so they are not published on my site, this could work in theory?

thanks again for all your help and suggestions, it really is invaluable :-)

    That's correct!

You should be able to make the posts private, so they'd only be visible to you. You could also create them as private Pages (instead of Posts), and not add them to a Custom Menu. Then they wouldn't be readily visible to you, either.

Ok so I've done as your suggestion but am still finding the order of the images are not remembered for some reason.

a typical gallery shortcode (see below) that I pasted in: I think the link="post" is causing the issue as I actually think it's linking to media library, if this makes sense? do you think this could be causing the problem

It's SO frustrating, am wondering whether I'm better off trying a gallery plug-in with a slideshow feature which hopefully will resolve this issue?
    thanks :-)

    [gallery columns="4" link="post" ids="180,174,237,191,190,179,189,187,184,173,175,178,238,181,232,177"]

Yeah, I'd try a gallery plugin -- any modification to the theme or WP would be more complex than I could help with at this point. :)

Ok incase anyone needs to know the outcome of this....I could not get the gallery to work properly but I do believe it's WordPress and not the theme.

The way I got around it is by using the portfolio slideshow plugin which then shows my images in the order I'd like them to be shown in. You can have one slideshow per page/post or multiple ones which is what I'm using.

    thanks

    Hi,
I have the same as Polly's problems - but with pages rather than posts.
I inserted a gallery in a page - but first - instead of showing the images in the pre-defined order - they appear in a random order.
The most annoying issue is that the gallery goes through all media files uploaded to the library.

Just reporting this in case someone knows of a solution.

    Thanks,
    K.
